Privacy Statement

Information obtained on the web is the same information that can be acquired through usual in-office transactions in government buildings, such as the courthouse, and are governed by the same state and federal laws that cover such visits.

The purpose of this statement is to inform users of this site that personal information is contained within. Nothing herein should be construed to, nor does it, create any new or different rights than those available under existing state and federal law.

For purposes of this statement, "personal information" refers to any information relating to an identified or identifiable individual who is the subject of the information. "Personal information" includes name, address, real estate and vehicle tax information, and any other piece of information that can be directly correlated to any one individual.

The State of South Carolina creates laws to ensure an open government in which the public has the right to access appropriate records and information possessed by a government agency. At the same time, certain exceptions, authorized by both state and federal laws, exist to maintain citizens' privacy. Information contained on the web is subject to inspection and copying by the public, just as in public records found in government buildings. In the event that there is a violation on the web to any state or federal law, appropriate action will be taken to amend the conflict. In all cases, state and federal law dictates proper availability of information. Information presented on web is collected, organized, and provided for the convenience of the user.

The IP (Internet Protocol) addresses of computers that access the web are noted as part of statistical analysis to better design government services and improve access to such services. No unlawful collection of IP addresses in order to obtain personal information about visitors to the web is practiced.

A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user's hard drive containing information about the user. Usage of a cookie is in no way linked to any personally identifiable information while on York County's site. Once the user closes their browser, the cookie simply terminates. For instance, by setting a cookie on York County's site, the user would not have to log in a password more than once, thereby saving time while on our site.

Neither York County nor any agency, officer, elected official or employee of the County warrants the accuracy, reliability or timeliness of any information on this website and shall not be liable for any losses caused by such reliance on the accuracy, reliability or timeliness of such information, including, but not limited to, incidental and consequential damages. This publication is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, either expressed or implied, including, but not limited to, the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. The County maintains all immunities as provided in the S.C. Tort Claims Act.

Portions of such information may be incorrect or out of date. Any person or entity who relies on any information obtained from this website does so at his or her own risk. In addition, nothing contained within this website is an official record of the County or the elected officials responsible therefore. All official records of the County and the offices of countywide elected officials are on file in their respective offices and may be reviewed by the public at those offices.

All comments, suggestions, ideas, notes, drawings, concepts or other information disclosed or offered to the County by this site or in response to solicitations in this site shall remain the property of the County. No comments shall be subject to any obligation of confidence on the part of the County, and the County shall not be liable for any use or disclosure of any comments. Without limitation of the foregoing, the County shall exclusively own all now known or hereafter existing rights to the comments of every kind and nature throughout the world and shall be entitled to unrestricted use of the comments for any purpose whatsoever, commercial or otherwise, without compensation to the provider of the comments.

Pursuant to South Carolina Code of Laws of 1976, Sec.30-4-20,ET Sequitur, as amended,
(c) "Public record" includes all books, papers, maps, photographs, cards, tapes, recordings or other documentary materials regardless of physical form or characteristics prepared, owned, used, in the possession of, or retained by a public body. Records such as income tax returns, medical records, hospital medical staff reports, scholastic records, adoption records, records related to registration, and circulation of library materials which contain names or other personally identifying details regarding the users of public, private, school, college, technical college, university, and state institutional libraries and library systems, supported in whole or in part by public funds or expending public funds, or records which reveal the identity of the library patron checking out or requesting an item from the library or using other library services, except nonidentifying administrative and statistical reports of registration and circulation, and other records which by law are required to be closed to the public are not considered to be made open to the public under the provisions of this act; nothing herein authorizes or requires the disclosure of those records where the public body, prior to January 20, 1987, by a favorable vote of three-fourths of the membership, taken after receipt of a written request, concluded that the public interest was best served by not disclosing them. Nothing herein authorizes or requires the disclosure of records of the Board of Financial Institutions pertaining to applications and surveys for charters and branches of banks and savings and loan associations or surveys and examinations of the institutions required to be made by law.
